Understanding Value Generated

How business value is calculated: base values, industry multipliers, and outcome tracking.

What is Value Generated?

Value Generated estimates the business impact of team contributions in monetary terms. It helps you:

  • Report ROI to leadership
  • Justify program budget and resources
  • Compare impact across categories (Sales, HR, Marketing)
  • Track value over time

How it's calculated

Formula: `` Value Generated = Σ (Base Value × Industry Multiplier) for each approved outcome ``

Three components:

1. Base Value: Default USD value per Assist type and outcome step 2. Industry Multiplier: Adjusts value based on your company's industry 3. Approved Outcomes: Only counts verified outcomes, not pending requests

Industry multipliers

Your workspace industry affects all value calculations:

| Industry | Multiplier | Example Impact | |----------|------------|----------------| | Technology | 1.3× | $10,000 → $13,000 | | Finance | 1.3× | $10,000 → $13,000 | | Consulting | 1.25× | $10,000 → $12,500 | | Real Estate | 1.2× | $10,000 → $12,000 | | Healthcare | 1.1× | $10,000 → $11,000 | | Manufacturing | 1.0× | $10,000 → $10,000 (baseline) | | Media & Entertainment | 0.9× | $10,000 → $9,000 | | Retail | 0.8× | $10,000 → $8,000 | | Education | 0.75× | $10,000 → $7,500 | | Non-profit | 0.7× | $10,000 → $7,000 | | Other | 1.0× | $10,000 → $10,000 (default) |

Why multipliers? A new customer in Technology typically has higher LTV than in Education. Multipliers reflect industry-specific value assumptions.

Base values by Assist type

Base values are conservative estimates reviewed by industry experts:

Sales Assists:

  • Refer New Lead

- Effort (intro sent): $50 - Qualified lead: $500 - Meeting booked: $2,000 - Deal closed: $20,000

  • Account Intel

- Effort (research): $25 - Insight delivered: $150 - Strategy shift: $1,500

  • Partner Door-Opener

- Effort (intro made): $50 - Meeting secured: $400 - Partnership signed: $25,000

  • Event Invitation

- Effort (invite sent): $20 - Attendance confirmed: $100 - Business outcome: $500

HR Assists:

  • Talent Referral

- Effort (referral submitted): $40 - Passes screening: $300 - Interviewed: $1,500 - Hired: $7,500

  • Onboarding Buddy

- Effort (buddy assigned): $40 - 30-day check-in: $200 - 90-day retention: $800

Marketing Assists:

  • Post Share

- Effort (shared): $10 - 1k impressions: $50 - 3k+ impressions: $100

  • Content Idea

- Effort (idea submitted): $20 - Concept approved: $100 - Campaign launched: $500

Example calculation

Scenario: You're a Technology company (1.3× multiplier)

Team member submits Talent Referral: 1. Referral submitted → $40 × 1.3 = $52 value 2. Passes screening (approved) → $300 × 1.3 = $390 value 3. Candidate hired (approved) → $7,500 × 1.3 = $9,750 value

Total Value Generated: $10,192 from one referral with two approved outcomes.

What counts toward value?

Included:

  • All submitted contributions (Step 1 effort value)
  • All approved outcomes (Steps 2-3)
  • Auto-approved outcomes

NOT included:

  • Pending approvals (not yet verified)
  • Rejected approvals
  • Contributions without approved outcomes still count effort value

Viewing value breakdowns

Value Generated card shows:

  • Total value across all categories
  • Breakdown by Sales / HR / Marketing
  • Per-Assist-type details with step-by-step values
  • Base values before and after multiplier

Click "View Details" to see:

  • Each Assist type's contribution to total
  • How many of each outcome step were approved
  • Industry multiplier applied to each category

Customizing values (Admin)

Currently, base values are system defaults and can't be customized per workspace.

Future enhancement: Custom value overrides per Assist type.

Workaround: Use Point values to reflect your internal value ratios (e.g., if hire is worth 10× more than referral to you, use 10× the points).

Tips for stakeholders

For executives:

  • Compare Value Generated to program costs (perk spending, admin time)
  • ROI = (Value Generated - Program Costs) / Program Costs × 100%
  • Track quarterly trends to show program growth

For team leads:

  • Use category breakdowns to see which functions drive most value
  • Identify high-value Assists and promote them more
  • Recognize top contributors not just by points but by value generated

Limitations to acknowledge:

  • Values are estimates based on industry averages
  • Actual customer LTV, hire value, or campaign ROI may differ
  • Use as directional metric, not precise accounting
  • Best for trend analysis and relative comparisons

FAQs

Can I change base values? Not currently via UI. Contact support if you need custom value models.

Why is my value lower than expected? Check your industry multiplier—Education/Non-profit have lower multipliers. Also ensure outcomes are getting approved.

Do pending approvals count? No—value only counts approved outcomes. Pending requests show $0 until approved.

How often does value update? Real-time. As soon as an outcome is approved, value recalculates instantly.
